We are deeply honoured to announce that our senior lawyer, J. Ronald Scott, Q.C., was presented with his “50 Years at the Bar Umbrella” from the County of Carleton Law Association (CCLA) in June 2023. That is, Ron started providing legal services to the Ottawa community in 1973 and has now been practicing law for over 50 years!
As stated at the awards ceremony, no one quite knows why the CCLA has chosen to present an engraved umbrella as the symbol of this milestone, but it is quite clear that the umbrella represents an impressive achievement.
In 1984, Ron was appointed Queen’s Counsel and in 2002 he received a master of laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto in the field of e-business law.
Throughout the years, Ron has practiced in criminal law, family law, business law, residential and commercial real estate law, and wills and estates law. Now, Ron prefers to practice wills and estates law and real estate law. In the area of estate administration, Ron has assisted numerous families in assuring a considerate and timely handling of their estate matters. He has drafted wills for numerous clients and been called upon by estate trustees to advise and assist them in fulfilling the obligations assumed by them as a result of their appointment as Estate Trustee. In real estate law, he has successfully represented thousands of Ottawa area buyers and sellers with their real estate transactions.
Throughout his career, Ron has been (and continues to be) an active volunteer in the community. He has served on the Foundation Board of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital and as President of the Board of Directors of the Good Companions Senior Centre. He is a current member, and past-President, of the Rotary Club of West-Ottawa.
