Ron Scott

In 1984 Ron was appointed Queen’s Counsel and in 2002, he received a Master of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto in the field of E-Business Law.

Ron Scott has been providing a broad range of legal services to clients since 1973. He attended the University of Ottawa Law School where he graduated with a Bachelor of Laws degree. In 1984 he was appointed Queen’s Counsel and in 2002, he received a Master of Laws degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto in the field of E-Business Law.                                         

Ron practices in the areas of residential and commercial real estate, wills and estates, business law and family law.                

 He has successfully represented thousands of Ottawa area buyers and sellers with their real estate transactions during his years of practice. His attention to detail and extensive experience in this area of practice and his dedication to providing exceptional service to his clients results in many referrals from satisfied clients and real estate professionals. Ron has represented most of the major lending institutions in the placing of mortgages and other debt financing and has represented the Province of Ontario in a major land assembly.

He has represented a wide range of businesses and incorporated many Federal and Provincial corporations as well as not-for-profit corporations. Mr. Scott has handled many business acquisitions and sales and has advised a wide range of clients on franchising, corporate financing and corporate restructuring. He has been called upon to make presentations to several financial planning groups and professional organizations and has participated in many retirement and home buying seminars.                                                                    

 In the area of estate administration, Ron has assisted numerous families in assuring a considerate and timely handling of their estate matters. He has drafted wills for numerous clients and been called upon by estate trustees to advise and assist them in fulfilling the obligations assumed by them as a result of their appointment as Estate Trustee.

 Ron is an active volunteer in the community. He has served on the Foundation Board of the Queensway-Carleton Hospital and as President of the Board of Directors of the Good Companions Senior Centre. He is a current member, and past-President, of the Rotary Club of West-Ottawa. In 2023, Ron received the Umbrella Award from the County of Carleton Law Association, recognizing the 50th anniversary of his Call to the Bar.

Andy Scott

Andy attended carleton university earning a bachelor of arts degree with a major in law, before attending the university of ottawa law school where he graduated with a bachelor of laws degree in 2004.

Andy was called to the Ontario bar in 2005 and articled and practiced for over five years at the international firm of Gowling WLG mainly in the areas of mergers and acquisitions and franchising before joining Kelly Santini LLP and Octagon Sports in 2008 to pursue an athlete representation practice. In 2015, Andy formed what is now Scott Law Group and was promoted within Octagon Sports. 

Andy has been certified as a player agent with the National Hockey League Players Association (NHLPA) since 2008 and has developed a deep understanding of the National Hockey League (NHL) collective bargaining agreement. He and his partner together represent some of the top players in the NHL including Leon Draisaitl, Patrik Laine, Mikko Rantanen, Matt Murray, Rasmus Ristolainen, Mike Hoffman, Gabe Vilardi, Calvin de Haan, Jakob Chychrun and many more. Andy has also represented a first round NHL drafted player in each of the past nine NHL entry drafts. In his work as a hockey agent, Andy has negotiated many significant contracts and a vast number of endorsements. Andy has also taught the Sports Law class at the University of Ottawa Law School and recently received the Ottawa Business Journal’s Top 40 Under Forty Award.

As a business lawyer, Andy’s practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, franchising and general corporate commercial law. Although Andy is now focused primarily on his hockey practice, he enjoys managing a law firm that handles many of the legal needs of his athlete clientele (real estate, estate planning, etc.), along with the wider community. Andy is also a Qualified Arbitrator (Q. Arb).

Andy also feels strongly about giving back to his community. In particular Andy serves as a Co-Chair of Martini Madness, an annual fundraiser which supports Crohns and Colitis Canada and raises funds to help find a cure for colitis and crohns disease. Andy also assists university students as a guest arbitrator for mock hockey arbitrations and speaks on many panels regarding the business of hockey.

Along with being a certified agent with the NHLPA, Andy is also a member of the Sports Lawyers Association, the County of Carleton Law Association, the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Bar Association, the ADR Institute of Ontario and the ADR Institute of Canada.


Kira Berkeley

Kira Berkeley

Kira Berkeley obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music from York University prior to earning her Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa, Faculty of Law in June 2020.

Kira completed her articles at Ollip Professional Corporation, a boutique intellectual property law firm. Following her call to the bar in 2021, Kira joined their litigation team as an associate lawyer, handing matters before the Trademarks Opposition Board, Federal Court, and Federal Court of Appeal. Kira joined Scott Law Group in 2022 to practice in the areas of residential and commercial real estate, wills and estates, and business law.

Kira previously worked as a freelance real estate law clerk at Elite Legal Support Services Inc for five years, where she aided numerous law firms around the Greater Toronto Area close residential real estate transactions. 

Kira also has a strong passion for animal protection. Throughout her studies, she worked as an animal law legal intern at Animal Justice, Breder Law and Gartner & Associates Animal Law and served as the Vice President of uOttawa’s Animal Justice Association. In 2021, Kira co-founded a non-profit organization, AEL Advocacy (Animal Environmental Legal Advocacy), where she continues to handle pro bono legal matters in the animal law division.

Guy Le Madec

Originally from Saint-Boniface, Manitoba (now Winnipeg), Guy has practiced law for over 20 years both as a sole practitioner and in various forms of association with small firms.  He joined Chiarelli Cramer Witteveen in early 2015 upon the retirement of Ken Cramer, a well-respected colleague.  Guy now carries on Ken’s practice in addition to serving his own clients from this new location. 

After graduating from the University of Manitoba (Collège de Saint-Boniface ), Guy went to law school on the east coast;   he obtained his law degree from l’Université de Moncton in 1988.  He was called to the bar in Manitoba in 1989 where he remains a non-practicing member of the Manitoba Bar.  He settled in Ottawa in 1991 and became a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1992.  Guy is active in the community, has served on municipal advisory committees and as a board member for a variety of local not-for-profit groups. Guy has taught, in English and French, at the Bar Admissions Course and at the Community College level. Guy is a member of l’Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Ontario and of the County Carleton Law Association. 

Guy’s practice continues to evolve.  Initially focused on family law, his practice mix has shifted in the last decade to residential real estate and wills and estates and, more recently to the corporate and commercial area.  He has a busy real estate practice which includes participation in public and private  relocation programs. Guy is fluently bilingual (English and français) and while most of his west-end clientele is English-Speaking, he also serves clients in the French language.  Most notably, he routinely prepares wills and powers of attorney in either language.


Gen Smillie

Genevieve Smillie practices in the areas of estate planning and administration, wills and trusts, guardianship matters, and real estate law.

Genevieve Smillie

Born and raised in Ottawa, Genevieve Smillie graduated from Carleton University in 2018 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Legal Studies and Neuroscience. In 2022, she completed her Juris Doctor from the University of Ottawa.  

Genevieve completed her articles under Eric Honey at Honey MacMillan Law Office, a small boutique firm in the Westboro neighbourhood, specializing in Wills & estate administration. Following her Call to the Bar of Ontario, she was hired on as an Associate Lawyer at the same firm. The majority of Genevieve’s practice has been focused in the areas of estate planning and administration, wills and trusts, guardianship matters, and real estate law.

In addition to her formal education, Genevieve has a particular interest in digital law, access to information, and data privacy protection. She obtained a Certificate in Information Access and Privacy Protection from the University of Alberta in 2014. She is certified by the Canadian Institute of Access and Privacy Professionals (CIAPP) and is also a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals. 

Beyond her legal practice, Genevieve has a passion for spending time in nature and volunteering in the community. She particularly enjoys rock climbing, target archery, gardening and exploring the outdoors with her cats.
